James D. Masterman is a shareholder with the Boston office of Greenberg Traurig, LLP. Mr. Masterman is a member of the bar of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the US District Court, US Tax Court, the First Circuit Court of Appeals and the US Supreme Court.

He received his B.A. from Cornell University in 1976 and his J.D. from Boston University School of Law in 1979.

Areas of Practice


A former law clerk to the Hon. John J. McNaught of the US District Court and former Assistant District Attorney, Mr. Masterman now concentrates his trial practice in the areas of eminent domain and tax abatement proceedings.

Experience

Mr. Masterman has appeared in US District Court and the First Circuit Court of Appeals (See, e.g., Portland Natural Gas Transmission System v. 19.2 Acres of Land, 318 F. 3d 279 (1st Cir. 2003)), in every Superior Court of the Commonwealth and before the New Hampshire Board of Tax and Land Appeals. Other reported decisions include, Boston Water & Sewer Commission v. Commonwealth, 64 Mass. App. Ct. 611 (2005) and as trial counsel in Liberty Square Dev. Trust v. Worcester, 441 Mass. 605 (2004).
