Michael F. Faherty was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, in 1956. He graduated with honors from Lebanon Valley College, Pennsylvania. He earned a masters degree in psychology and a graduate certificate from the University of Akron where he became a member of the national honor society, Psi Chi. He attended law school at the Rutgers School of Law - Newark, and served on the Women's Rights Law Reporter. Mike was an employee of the Boy Scouts of America in New York City from 1983 to 1989. His positions included training director and senior finance director.

He began his eminent domain law practice in 1989 with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and quickly became the senior PennDOT attorney for eminent domain law. He worked in Allentown, Pennsylvania for a large Philadelphia law firm. He then practiced in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for a large multi-state law firm and became a partner in that law firm in 1998.

In 2000, he helped form the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania law firm of Lavery, Faherty, Young & Patterson, P.C. He is a senior shareholder and directs marketing, personnel and accounting services for the law firm. He practices eminent domain law for property owners throughout Pennsylvania.

Mike is a frequent author and lecturer, with recent eminent domain presentations to the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors. His most recent lecture discussed Marcellus shale property rights. He served as the editor of PDI News, the newsletter of the Pennsylvania Defense Institute and served as the director for that association for many years. He was President of the Pennsylvania Defense Institute in 2004. Other professional associations include the Harrisburg Claims Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Association. He serves on the Eminent Domain Committee of the Real Property, Probate & Trust Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Mike's statewide eminent domain practice includes state and federal condemnations. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania in the three Federal Court Districts of Pennsylvania.
