Owners' Counsel of America member Edward McKirdy represents the property owner in this legal battle. Mr. McKirdy is quoted in the Courier News article:
"For many
people, their land is their savings account, their pension plan," said
Edward D. McKirdy, the Morristown attorney who filed the amicus brief.
"What the Highlands Act tries to do is take your property; you have
residual use, title to the land and the right to pay taxes on it, but
it actually has a significant value that's gone. And you have to accept
that for the common good.
"This is a burden that should fall on
the community as a whole," he added. "That's what the just compensation
clause (of the U.S. Constitution) is for."
