Benson SnaiderMr. Snaider was born in New Haven, Connecticut. Mr. Snaider received his BA Degree at the University of Vermont in 1959. He attended the law school of the University of Virginia and received his LL.B. Degree in 1962, his J.D in 1970. Mr. Snaider was admitted to practice in Connecticut in 1962 and in Florida in 1966. He is also admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of The United States; Courts of Appeals for the second and eighth Circuits; U.S. Court of Military Appeals; the U.S. Tax Court; and the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut.
After admission to the Connecticut Bar in August, 1962, Mr. Snaider received a direct commission in the United States Army Judge Advocate Generals Corps where he served as a trial attorney in Germany. After his honorable discharge in 1966 as a Captain, he worked as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Connecticut and was en gaged in the trial of condemnation cases for the State of Connecticut. In 1967 Mr. Snaider became associated with the Bridgeport law firm of Mellitz, Krentzman and Hall whose practice concentrated on insurance defense litigation. In 1970, Mr. Snaider joined the law firm of Slavitt & Connery in Norwalk where he was engaged in litigation primarily concerning real estate, zoning, redevelopment and condemnation. In 1972, he formed the firm of Snaider & Sullivan as a general partner in New Haven, Connecticut. In 1983, Mr. Snaider became partner in the firm of Toro & Snaider until 1985 when Mr. Snaider left the firm to establish his own practice. Since entering private practice Mr. Snaider has represented individuals, lending institutions and municipalities in real estate related litigation with a concentration in the field of condemnation appeals. Mr. Snaider has been selected to be listed in Best Lawyers in America for Eminent Domain and Condemnation Law.
Mr. Snaider has been appointed an Attorney Trial Referee by Chief Justice Peters and has served in that capacity since 1990. He is a member of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association and American Trial Lawyers Association. He is the author of several treaties on condemnation law published in the Connecticut Bar Journal.
Mr. Snaider regularly lectures on eminent domain/condemnation law for The National Business Institute and the Connecticut Bar Association. He has been active in litigating condemnation appeals in all Connecticut courts. Significant appellate cases successfully argued by Mr. Snaider are as follows: Gulf Oil Corporation v.
