Several members of Owners’ Counsel of America will be speaking at the 14th Annual Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Conference at the William and Mary Law School in Williamsburg, Virginia on October 12-13, 2017. The Conference is honoring University of Hawaii Law School Professor David Callies (the 2015 Recipient of OCA’s Crystal Eagle award), for his lifetime of work, both scholarly and practical, advancing the right of private property. During a ceremony at The Peace Palace in The Hague on October 21, the 2016 the 2016 Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Prize was awarded to Peruvian economist Hernando de Soto, President of the Institute of Liberty and Democracy. An advocate for the formal recognition of private property ownership as a solution to global poverty, de Soto has been recognized internationally for his work. The Prize was awarded following the conclusion of the 13th Annual Brigham-Kanner International Property Rights Conference in which a number of OCA attorneys participated.

The William & Mary Property Rights Project recently announced that Peruvian economist Hernando de Soto, president of the Institute for Liberty and Democracy (ILD), will receive the 2016 Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Prize at the 13th annual Brigham-Kanner Property Rights conference October 2016.  The Property Rights Project also announced its cooperation with the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies of Leiden Law School and plans to host this years event in The Hague.

On October 1, the William & Mary Law School Property Rights Project honored Professor Joseph Singer with the 2015 Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Prize for his scholarship concerning property’s relationship to our political, economic, and social systems.  Prof. Singer was honored during a candlelight dinner in the Great Hall of the historic Sir Christopher Wren Building, commencing the 12th annual Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Conference.

This evening Joseph William Singer, Bussey Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, will be presented with the 2015 Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Prize on the campus of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.  Professor Singer will be the 12th recipient of this prestigious award which is presented annually to a scholar, lawyer or jurist whose work has advanced the cause of property rights and has contributed to the overall awareness of the important role property rights play in the broader scheme of individual liberty.

With the official arrival of Fall, we are reminded that the 11th Annual Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Conference is just around the corner – October 30 & 31, 2014 at William & Mary Law School, Williamsburg, Virginia. As previously announced, this year’s Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Prize will be awarded to Michael M. Berger, a partner with the Los Angeles Office of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips.

Berger will receive the 2014 Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Prize October 30-31, 2014 at the 11th Annual Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Conference in Williamsburg, Virginia.

On October 18, OCA member-attorneys participated in the 10th annual Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Conference at William and Mary Law School in Williamsburg, Virginia. Annually, legal scholars, practitioners and members of the judiciary who have a specific interest in property law and property rights gather to discuss current topics in takings law and property rights.

We are currently attending, along with a number of legal scholars, practicing lawyers and law school students, the 10th Annual Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Conference at William & Mary Law School in Williamsburg, Virginia. The Conference began Thursday evening with the presentation of the Brigham-Kanner Prize to Professor Thomas W. Merrill, the Charles Evan Hughes Professor at Columbia Law School.

Jacksonville-based eminent domain and property rights attorney, Andrew Prince Brigham, has been invited to speak at the 10th Annual Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Conference in Williamsburg, Virginia, October 17-18, 2013.
